CNC material handling is crucial in the production process, yet it has the potential to be a significant bottleneck as well as a physical and inconsistent one.
Before machining, sheet materials have to be picked up, lifted, moved, positioned on the machine table and then positioned properly. In situations when all these steps have to be taken by hand, workers might have to ask for help, distract other workers from what they are doing, or deal with heavy and bulky sheets alone.
The AXYZ LOADLINE Systems are CNC material handling systems meant to simplify sheet loading making it safer, consistent and more efficient.
There are two systems within this category; the AXYZ LOADLINE ASSIST is intended for operator-guided loading of appropriate sheet material while the AXYZ LOADLINE HD is an automated loading system for bigger and heavier sheets.
Why CNC Material Handling Matters
A CNC router may be ready for its next machining cycle, but production cannot continue until the next sheet is correctly positioned on the machine bed.
Manual loading can introduce several operational challenges:
- Heavy sheets may require two employees.
- Operators may need to wait for assistance.
- Sheet placement can vary between loading cycles.
- Material may need to be repositioned before machining.
- Long or heavy sheets can be difficult to control.
- Repeated lifting may contribute to operator strain.
- Loading delays can reduce machine utilization.
A dedicated CNC material handling system helps address the work that happens between the material stack and the machine bed.
AXYZ LOADLINE ASSIST: Operator-Controlled Sheet Loading
AXYZ LOADLINE ASSIST is an independent system designed to help an operator pick up, transport, and align compatible sheets up to 150 pounds each.
The system features a wireless remote, which controls the movement in four directions – left, right, up, and down, while the loading process is carried out. The controls of the vacuum of the system are mounted on the boom; the release button and vacuum gauge are found on the same panel.

The system is fully wireless and runs from batteries. Additionally, the system has a built-in compressor and thus does not require to be plugged into another source of compressed air.
One fully charged battery will enable 500 loading cycles. In case when fast loading is needed, 3 hours quick charging gives an opportunity to make 150 cycles.
Supporting Multiple Sheets, Skids, and Machines
LOADLINE ASSIST can integrate with machines that have a bed height of up to 35 inches. It supports common sheet formats, including:
- 4 × 4 feet
- 4 × 8 feet
- 4 × 10 feet
- 5 × 10 feet
Its working range can be configured to access multiple material skids and multiple CNC machines.
Different compatible materials can therefore be staged separately. An operator can retrieve the required sheet and deliver it to the appropriate CNC router as production requirements change.
Vacuum cups secure and lift the sheet before it is placed on the machine bed. The operator then completes the final positioning against the machine’s pop-up pins.
This process can help reduce labour strain, improve loading consistency, and prevent the loading stage from becoming an avoidable production bottleneck.
Materials and Applications for LOADLINE ASSIST
he AXYZ LOADLINE ASSIST is designed to handle a wide range of compatible sheet materials, including:
- Closed-cell foam
- Plastics
- Melamine
- Metal
- And other non-porous sheet materials*
LOADLINE ASSIST is well suited for manufacturing applications such as:
- Signage production
- Packaging manufacturing
- Woodworking
- Cladding fabrication
- HVAC manufacturing
* Material compatibility depends on factors such as surface finish, porosity, sheet size, weight, and the ability of the vacuum system to achieve a secure lift. To ensure the best performance, your application should be reviewed with an AXYZ representative before selecting or configuring a LOADLINE system.
AXYZ LOADLINE HD for Larger and Heavier Sheets
Some production environments require a higher-capacity and more automated material-loading process.
AXYZ LOADLINE HD is designed for compatible sheets weighing up to 500 pounds and measuring up to 16 feet long.

The system uses a high-capacity cantilever to support large-format panels throughout the loading cycle. Anchored linear guides provide stable and repeatable movement from the material stack to the CNC router.
At the stack, a built-in sensor identifies the top of the material. As sheets are removed and the height of the stack changes, LOADLINE HD automatically readjusts its pickup height for the next cycle.
This reduces the need to manually reset the pickup position as the material stack becomes lower.
Coordinating Loading with the CNC Router
Automated loading requires careful coordination between the material-handling system and the CNC router.
SafetyLogic coordinates LOADLINE HD with the CNC machine. A loading cycle cannot begin unless the router gantry is in a safe position and clear of the loading area.
Once the area is clear, LOADLINE HD lifts the sheet, travels along its anchored track, and positions the material over the machine bed.
The system then corrects angular and positional misalignment to the machine’s pop-up pins before machining begins.
This coordinated workflow helps reduce interference between the loader and the router while supporting more consistent material positioning.
Flexible Production-Layout Configurations
Manufacturing facilities do not all follow the same material flow.
LOADLINE HD can be configured for front or rear loading, allowing the system to fit different equipment arrangements and production layouts.
It can also be configured to serve two CNC routers positioned along the same travel axis. One material-loading system can then deliver sheets to either machine.
This creates the potential for a more efficient production cell by allowing material to move between the stack and multiple CNC routers through a shared loading system.
Materials and Industries for LOADLINE HD
AXYZ LOADLINE HD is designed to automate the handling of a wide range of compatible non-porous sheet materials, including:
- Aluminum Composite Material (ACM)
- High-Pressure Laminate (HPL)
- Aluminum plate
- Fiber cement
- Closed-cell foam
- Melamine
- Plastics
- Sheet metal
LOADLINE HD is ideal for high-volume production environments, including:
- Cladding manufacturing
- Construction materials
- Signage production
- HVAC manufacturing
- Other high-throughput sheet processing operations
By automating material loading, LOADLINE HD reduces manual handling, minimizes loading downtime, and improves sheet positioning accuracy—helping manufacturers achieve smoother material flow, higher machine utilization, and greater overall production efficiency.
Choose the Right CNC Material Handling System
AXYZ LOADLINE ASSIST and AXYZ LOADLINE HD address different material-handling requirements.
LOADLINE ASSIST may be suitable when manufacturers need flexible, operator-controlled assistance for compatible sheets weighing up to 150 pounds.
LOADLINE HD may be more appropriate when the application involves longer or heavier materials, automated pickup, guided movement, CNC coordination, and higher-throughput production.
The right configuration will depend on:
- Sheet dimensions
- Sheet weight
- Material surface
- Machine-bed height
- Number of material skids
- Number of CNC machines
- Facility layout
- Required level of automation
Both solutions are designed around the same principle: material handling should help support CNC production rather than create a bottleneck.
With the right CNC material handling system, manufacturers can reduce operator strain, improve loading consistency, and make better use of their CNC equipment.
