A Sign That Really ‘Pops’

Only recently they were approached by a client with a rather unusual brief. A popcorn company wanted a roadside attraction, a special kind of sign for their storefront that would attract the attention of not only the locals but also any tourists driving through. It was Custom Sign & Engineering they turned to with the intention of translating their vision into reality.

They were given a snack-sized box as an example of what it had to look like and after some discussion as to the size it should be, the final design ended up calling for a fourteen foot tall popcorn box.

The fabrication of the four-sided popcorn box was made from aluminum panels that were cut using Custom Signs, AXYZ 5010 Series CNC router. The panels were then taken to the paint shop to have red and white stripes applied, after which it was then transported to the job site in two pieces for installation. Finally it was mounted onto an existing light pole and placed at an angle for maximum visual impact.

Like all AXYZ CNC routers, the 5000 Series is driven by the high powered motion capability of the AXYZ A2MC control system. The A2MC delivers much faster and smoother motion based on S-Curve (Seven Segment Velocity) trajectories, leading to a significant reduction in ‘bounce’ and vibration caused by sudden acceleration or deceleration that is often found with other control systems. As well as being fully compatible with all popular CAD/CAM packages, this makes the A2MC controller one of the most powerful control systems available today.
